What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that focuses on treating irregularities in the alignment of the teeth and jaws, as well as addressing improper occlusion (bite). Braces help improve the function of your smile, make it easier to clean and maintain a healthy smile and can enhance the overall appearance of your smile.
Dr. Shokooh Aletaha completed a two-year orthodontic curriculum for the general/family dentist. The course, put on Progressive Orthodontics in Houston, involved over 380 hours of class time and many more hours of study and practice. Progressive Orthodontic Seminars has been teaching general dentists to do orthodontics since 1984, and has a worldwide presence that spans every continent except Antarctica.
What are traditional braces?
Braces are used to move your teeth into their proper positions in the mouth. Braces use metal brackets and wires to place constant, gentle pressure on the teeth. Your dentist will adjust the wires to ensure that your teeth are properly shifted to their ideal positions, giving you a straight, healthy, and beautiful smile.
What are Invisalign braces?
Invisalign straightens teeth by using a series of custom-made patient-specific clear aligners that fit over your teeth and are almost invisible. They can be taken off to eat and to clean your teeth. Not everyone is a candidate for this type of orthodontics but we will know more after your exam.
You may want braces if your smile is affected by orthodontic conditions such as:
• Crooked or misaligned teeth
• Overcrowded teeth
• Gaps and spaces between the teeth
• Bite problems (overbite, crossbite, underbite, or open bite)
